Name-Dropping

Name-Dropping
Source

Name-dropping assumes a single scale of value and invites judgment.

You can name-drop a person to demo your network, or a book to demo your knowledge.

In Critical Business School (a group coaching circle I have been holding in various versions over the past 5 years), there are no introductions, and more importantly, you are not allowed to bring up a quote or a book without explaining what it means.

When we name drop, we try to signal value, but more often than not, it will come across as insular. It is a shortcut to think (and communicate) what we want to say and the way we want to meet.
